Tiles are fixed!

The mold has been modified and the new polishing procedure works great. We have the new sample of the tiles and they feel and look great and most importantly - they stand up!

The new round of production of the tiles is scheduled to be done by the end of this week. Then everything can be boxed up and ready to ship. We are hoping for them to leave China the first week in September. We will let you know as soon as they are picked up.

Kickstarter Edition

We are arranging to have the extra components made in China for this edition (Disks, Instructions and Bags) shipped by air directly to us. These should be shipping within the next 2 weeks. We can then assemble everything here. These Editions will be shipped in September. Once we know exact timing we will let you know.

A necessary delay, and some good news!

Hello backers,

We were hoping this update was going to be telling you that SUM8 was all finished and heading for the docks. Our original timeline had production finishing this week. Unfortunately we have a slight delay in our timeline.

Production has been going strong, and the majority of the items are close to completion. However, our main component - the tiles - need some rework. To get the finish we want - matte - the tiles have to be polished once they come out of the mold. I know it sounds weird - get a dull finish by polishing - but that is the process. The final samples we have look and feel great - here is a picture of the tiles.

The problem is that the polishing has rounded the edges too much! When you play the game your opponent does not see your tiles, which is achieved by having the tiles stand on their sides. The current tiles do not stand up. While we contemplated adding holders instead (like Scrabble), we really felt it would take away some of the charm of the game. 

So we have made the decision to spend the extra time and money to adjust the tiles so that they can stand up. We really feel it will be a better experience for you, the players, and we hope you agree. 

So the updated shipping from overseas to our warehouse is the week of August 22nd. Four weeks later than our original timeline. We sincerely apologize for the delay, but it will be worth it!

Now for some good news!

Since we are molding the tiles there is a higher minimum order quantity. Because of this we decided to look at distribution and retail and therefore designed a box for SUM8. We talked to many people who told us that unless we had a highly demanded game (hello Bananagrams!), retailers would not go for a game in a bag. Here is a shot of the box - we think it is fantastic if we do say so ourselves!

Everyone who has backed the Classic Edition of SUM8 will be getting the boxed edition. This still includes the bag. If you do NOT want the box, just send us a message and you will just get the game in the bag as you initially pledged. We are covering all of the extra costs of production and shipping for this upgrade. 

Kickstarter Edition

The in house production of the Kickstarter Edition is rolling along as well. Since the disks and bags for the Kickstarter Edition are made along with our Classic Edition components, we unfortunately have to wait for them to be completed. (Though we are going to look into getting those shipped to us beforehand and see if that is feasible.) That way we may be able to ship these sooner.  We will let you know how this all progresses.

Have you completed your survey yet on Backerkit? Entered your address? Entered your credit card information (for shipping and any add-ons)?

This is your reminder to please do so this week! We are looking to lock orders by the end of the week. We will then be charging credit cards for any add-ons and shipping next week.

Shipping Rate Update

Shipping rates are now in Backerkit -- please go ahead and finalize your orders!

Shipping prices are still highly volatile and higher than normal. Since you, our fabulous backers, have no control over these prices and you backed us based on our estimates, we have decided to keep the shipping prices at those rates and we'll be absorbing the difference. 

**Please note that the estimates were in US dollars (ie $14), and we are charging in Canadian dollars ($14US ~ $18CAD) so it will look different due to the exchange rate.  

Local Pickup has also been added as an option if you want to come to our Workshop in Waterloo, Ontario. To change to this you can edit your order and edit your shipping address by changing your Country to Local Pickup.

Taxes

• For all customers in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand all applicable taxes have been added to the shipping costs. There will be nothing else due upon shipment receipt.
• For EU/UK customers, we have added the VAT into Backerkit so you will prepay it and have nothing due upon shipment receipt.

Progress and Timelines

Hello Everyone!

Things have been moving right along with SUM8.  We cannot believe it has been a month since we funded - time is flying by. Thank you for your patience as we get everything organized. 

Pledge Manager

Everything is setup and will be doing a test this weekend. Once we are sure everything is operating correctly, you will receive an email to complete the Survey. This should be at the beginning of next week. 

Score disks

We have finalized the score disks for the game. We think they make a great addition to the game and will make it easy to keep track of all those points you are going to score! 

Timeline

We have received an estimated timeline for production of the Classic Editions from our manufacturing partner. Right now we are on track for them to ship before the end of July. This should mean arrival to us by the end of August and we should be on track for September delivery. Of course, shipping is still an unknown due to the state of the world, but we are optimistic and will do everything in our power to move it along.

Breakout 2022

We will be attending Breakout 2022 in Toronto on July 15-17th. We will be showcasing SUM8 and a few new games we are working on. If you are attending please stop by and say hello!
